The serum level of lipids in lipedema are significantly increased, and IL-6 has been shown to be expressed in lipedema; however, it is not overexpressed when compared with obese patients [7,27], and it can activate p-STAT3 in the adipose tissue [53], which again can contribute to the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines such as MCP-1 and IL-6, which can further perpetuate inflammation in adipose tissue. This evidence concerns the gene STAT3 and Lipedema.
