A potent humoral immunological response to Shigella infection (including IgA and IgG secretion) has been reported in shigellosis patients and has been observed in several animal models (monkeys, mice, rabbit, guinea pigs).14 It has been reported to be serotype-specific and mainly directed toward Shigella lipopolysaccharide (LPS-associated O-antigen repeats).15 However, no direct correlation between the induced immune response and potential protection against shigellosis has been confirmed. The gene discussed is CD79A; the disease is shigellosis.
