Since we also did not find any evidence for oxidative stress, morphological and mechanical changes, endothelial dysfunction, or compensation of endothelial function by alternative vasodilatory signaling pathways in the ophthalmic artery, we assume that the absence of LOX-1 signaling into the cell may be a possible reason for the resistance of this vascular bed to chronic hypercholesterolemia. Here, OLR1 is linked to endothelial dysfunction.
