Recently, two strong genetic risk factors for fatty liver diseases, including NAFLD, were identified as missense variants in patatin phospholipase-like domain containing protein 3 (PNPLA3) [31] and in transmembrane 6 superfamily member 2 (TM6SF2), which promotes bulk lipidation and prevent fatty liver disease [32]. The gene discussed is TM6SF2; the disease is fatty liver disease.
