As examples, an overexpression of endothelial cell intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM1) has been observed in frontal cortex of a subgroup of schizophrenia patients with signs of inflammation (10), and significantly more CD163 expressing perivascular macrophages were identified in subependymal tissue and in the midbrain of a different schizophrenia patient group (8). This evidence concerns the gene ICAM1 and schizophrenia.
