It has been validated that polymorphisms in the SLCO1B1 gene, which encodes the protein responsible for hepatic uptake of statins, and the COQ2 gene, which encodes an enzyme involved in the synthesis of coenzyme Q10, are strongly associated with statin-induced myopathy (Needham and Mastaglia, 2014). The gene discussed is SLCO1B1; the disease is myopathy.
