TNF and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis: Indirect effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection, such as hyperinflammation, hypoxia, reperfusion-injury, imbalanced gut microbiome, Kupffer cell activation, and altered lipid metabolism, are all likely to contribute to increased levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, TNF-a, and MCP-1) that are integral in the development of NASH.
