MAPT and tauopathy: Under pathological conditions, tau can form insoluble aggregates that are a hallmark of diseases collectively referred to as tauopathies, including Alzheimer’s Disease (AD), progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), frontotemporal dementia with parkinsonism linked to chromosome 17 (FTDP-17), corticobasal degeneration (CBD), argyrophilic grain disease, Pick’s disease and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) (Lee et al., 2001; Braak et al., 2006; Dickson et al., 2011; Kouri et al., 2011; Irwin et al., 2016; Kovacs et al., 2020).
