Although this association weakened with covariate adjustment, it remained statistically significant after controlling for age, sex, coronary artery disease, heart failure, Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score (creatinine, total bilirubin, PaO2/FiO2 ratio, mean arterial pressure/vasopressor, Glasgow Coma Scale, platelets), lactate, and C-reactive protein (RR 0.84 (95% CI, 0.71–0.99)).
