Interestingly, IL-37 was shown to be higher in patients with LN and mucocutaneous activity [7,28], and previous studies documented a correlation between IL-37 mRNA overexpression and risk of developing LN in patients with SLE [29,30], thus posing the issue of IL-37 being involved in SLE progression. The gene discussed is IL37; the disease is systemic lupus erythematosus.
