The extreme release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, especially IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-α [1], in the context of COVID-19, is often associated with a phenomenon called the “cytokine storm”, representing a distinctive sign of the immunopathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2, in addition to being directly related to the severity and mortality of this disease. This evidence concerns the gene TNF and COVID-19.
