At present, the use of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers amyloid-β (Aβ), tau, and phosphorylated tau (Ptau) allows discrimination between Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) due to AD, i.e., prodromal AD, and MCI due to other causes (non-AD MCI) with very high accuracy (see [2] for a review), but this requires an invasive procedure.
