Sang et al. showed that bisphenol A (BPA) induces the proliferation of ovarian cancer cells via the regulation of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and intercellular cell adhesion molecule-1 (IMAC-1), but the addition of an ERα inhibitor abolished this effect, suggesting that BPA promotes ovarian cancer cells via the ERα signaling pathway [42]. Here, MMP9 is linked to ovarian cancer.
