In two different models of cancer cells exposed to uncoupling conditions that simulate the main features of anoxia-induced bioenergetic dysfunctions (henceforth anoxia-mimicking conditions), we investigated whether IF1 by modulating mitophagy could promote cell proliferation when the FCCP uncoupler was removed, allowing normal functioning of oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS). The gene discussed is ATP5IF1; the disease is cancer.
