TNF and systemic mastocytosis: Among the several mutations of the c-KIT gene found in SM patients [6], D816V is associated with the uncontrolled proliferation and activation of mast cells [3,7]; this leads to an abnormal release of inflammatory mediators, including histamine, interleukin 3 and 16, tumor necrosis factor-α, and proteolytic enzymes, as tryptase, which cause local and distal inflammation and allergic reactions [8,9].
