CAMK2G and diabetes mellitus: Specifically, the more prevalent role of CaMKII in inducing SOICR at lower Ca2+ levels suggests CaMKII inhibition might be the best strategy early in the disease (when SOICR is less likely), but in the later stages of diabetes when SOICR is more likely due to other triggers, such as oxidation, inhibition of O-GlcNAcylation might be more beneficial.
