Many studies have shown that obesity promotes an increase in WBC count;[4–6] furthermore, CRP levels are significantly correlated with body weight (BW), body mass index (BMI), and fat mass.[7,8] It has also been reported that both WBC count and CRP levels decrease in patients with obesity after bariatric surgery.[4,8] Several investigators have reported that immune cells are involved in obesity; however, few studies have investigated the relationship between the immune system and preoperative weight loss in patients before bariatric surgery. Here, CRP is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
