The first evidence regarding the contribution of NLRP3 in diet-induced atherosclerosis in a mouse model was from bone marrow transplantations of Ldlr−/− mice with bone marrow derived from either wild-type, Nlrp3−/−, Asc−/−, or Il-1α−/−/Il-1β −/− mice [13]. The gene discussed is IL1B; the disease is atherosclerosis.
