Experimental stimulation of TLR2 in breast cancer stem cells (CSC) induces the activation of the MyD88/NF-κB and Akt pathways following the secretion of several cytokines (TGF-β and IL-6) and growth factors (epidermal growth factor (EGF)) that enable the cancer cells to survive and invade the nearby tissue or blood vessel (104). The gene discussed is EGF; the disease is breast cancer.
