Proinflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin 1β (IL-1β), interleukin 2 (IL-2), IL-6, interleukin 8 (IL-8), and TNF-α, were found at higher levels in saliva or plasma in BMS patients, but anti-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin 10 (IL-10), were decreased [2, 47, 48].
