Our study demonstrated that 1) steatosis can be induced by treating HepG2 OOCs with OA or a mixture of OA and PA for 24 h, 2) OOC viability and albumin production were significantly reduced 6 days after the establishment of steatosis in response to 24 h treatment with OA + PA but not with OA alone, 3) some of the hepatic responses to drug candidates for NAFLD/NASH in humans were recapitulated in HepG2 steatosis OOCs. The gene discussed is ALB; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
