Participants in the higher TG/HDL-C quartiles were more likely to be incident T2DM patients, older, fatty liver patients, current smokers, non-drinkers, severe drinkers, persons who had no exercise habits, and had higher body weight, BMI, triglycerides, total cholesterol, fasting plasma glucose, ALT, AST, GGT, HbA1c, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, larger waist circumference, but less likely to be light drinkers, moderate drinkers, non-smokers, past smokers, and those with lower HDL-cholesterol levels (P<0.001).
