Both isoforms of MACROH2A1 (MACROH2A1.2 and MACROH2A1.2) have been shown to increase with age in both rodent and human livers and are strong immunohistochemical markers of human cirrhosis and HCC (Macias et al., 2021). The gene discussed is MACROH2A1; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
