Indeed, the link between downregulation of TREM-1 and response was specific to patients treated with anti-TNF agents in one of the studies by Verstockt et al.7 It is possible that treatment of IBD with anti-TNF agents could reduce signalling through receptors such as TREM-1 and lead to general downregulation, even if this does not result in clinical or endoscopic response or remission.
