In this study, we employed ENPCs transgenic reporter mice (Nestin-creERT2 × Ngfr-DreERT2: DTRGFP), and observed that ENPCs exhibited a reversible state of dormancy in the adult colon, characterized by a low rate of neurogenesis and gliogenesis under physical condition, while damage induced by diabetes evoked the neurogenic response of ENPCs. This evidence concerns the gene NGFR and diabetes mellitus.
