CYP17A1 and polycystic ovary syndrome: Recently it was suggested that genetic causes have been involved in PCOS pathophysiology, with specific emphasis on genes influencing reproductive hormone biosynthesis and function, chronic inflammation, and cell metabolism. Several fundamental genes related to steroidogenesis are implicated, which are CYP19, CYP17A1, HSD17B6, HSD17B5, and CYP21 [27].
