During DN, mesangial cells that become activated or proliferated will differentiate into myofibroblasts and produce an excessive amounts of extracellular matrix (ECM) (such as type I collagen fibers and fibronectin), which causes thickening of the glomerular basement membrane and obstruction of glomerular capillaries, leading to glomerular sclerosis, which ultimately causes DN (Garcia-Fernandez et al., 2020). Here, FN1 is linked to liver dysplastic nodule.
