Ma et al. (2017) have found that TGF-β1 promotes human hepatic carcinoma cells invasion by upregulating autophagy. In 1999, Fufang Biejia Ruangan tablets (FFBJ) were the first traditional Chinese medicine authorized by the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) to treat liver fibrosis (Guo et al., 2004). FFBJ can attenuate liver fibrosis by inhibiting TGF-β1/Smad in a CCl4-induced fibrosis model (Yang, Fang & Lou, 2013). FFBJ can also treat liver fibrosis by preventing HSC proliferation and activation (Guo et al., 2004). The gene discussed is TGFB1; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
