While the impact of SMEK2, PNPT1, EFEMP1, CCDC85A, VRK2, and BCL11A risk genes on the causal relationship between COVID-19 and epilepsy remains uncertain, this study’s findings offer valuable insights for future mechanistic research, as these genes could be involved in the shared genetic and etiological basis of the two conditions. This evidence concerns the gene PPP4R3B and epilepsy.
