Among the genes that increase susceptibility to HCC in chronic HBV patients are STAT4, complement component (C2), protein phosphatase 1 catalytic subunit beta (PPP1CB), tumor suppressor protein (p53), MDM2 proto-oncogene (MDM2), DEP domain containing 5 (DEPDC5), X-chromosome long arm band 22.1 (Xq22.1), and CD33 molecule (SIGLEC3 or CD33), which were found in studies conducted in Asian populations only [45,46,47,48,49,50,51]. This evidence concerns the gene MDM2 and hepatocellular carcinoma.
