Until recently, none of the antidiabetic drugs could be shown to reduce MACE in diabetic patients, thus the results of randomized clinical trials (RCTs), which assessed the efficacy of two novel classes of glucose-lowering drugs, the sodium–glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT-2i) and the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP1-RA) marked a “new era” in diabetes treatment [73,74,75,76,77].
