Transplantation of CCR5-ablated HSPCs into a patient with HIV-1 infection and acute lymphoblastic leukemia resulted in complete remission for 19 months after transplantation, during which time the cells with the modified CCR5 gene persisted, and the CCR5 disruption ranged from 5.20 to 8.28% in bone marrow cells. The gene discussed is CCR5; the disease is acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
