LNPs appear to be a viable method of delivering genome editing technologies such as base editors to the liver, and, indeed, VERVE-101, a single-dose CRISPR base editing therapeutic targeting PCSK9 has recently begun phase 1 b study in patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia and cardiovascular disease (NCT05398029). Here, PCSK9 is linked to familial hypercholesterolemia.
