A study using both primary lung tissue samples and a validation cohort from the Cancer Genome Map (TCGA) showed an overall increase in Proteobacteria in the lung cancer microbiome, while the abundance of Acidophilic Bacillus acidovorax (Proteobacteria) increased in squamous cell carcinoma with TP53 mutations in smokers, indicating the interaction between microbiome genes and microbiota exposure [35].
