Targeting the PGC-1α/Sirt1/ERRα axis has been proposed as a means to improve cardiomyocyte function in diabetic cardiomyopathy [39]; the identification of the ABA/LANCL1-2 system as an essential part of the ERRα activating pathway may provide a new pharmacological agonist (ABA) and new molecular targets (the LANCL proteins) to this end. This evidence concerns the gene PPARGC1A and diabetic cardiomyopathy.
