The mRNA transcription of Orai1 was increased by 21-fold in many of the human breast cancer cell lines (T-47D, MDA-MB-231, ZR-75-1, MCF-7, BT-483 and SK-BR-3 cells) compared with the nonmalignant mammary epithelial cell lines (184B5 and 184A1 cells), suggesting that Orai1 was the predominant isoform in the MCF-7, ZR-75-1, MDA-MB-231, and T-47D cell lines [19]. The gene discussed is ORAI1; the disease is breast cancer.
