Thus, our study aims to understand the effect of Mirtazapine, a classical antidepressant [17], and other drugs with the reported potential to be repurposed in the therapy of depression, namely TCB-2, Dextromethorphan, Ketamine, Quetiapine, Scopolamine, Celecoxib, and Lamotrigine [18,19,20], on human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells under hypoxia and under inhibition of HIF-1 by Echinomycin, a potent HIF-1α inhibitor that binds to DNA by bifunctional intercalation, blocking the binding of HIF-1α [21]. This evidence concerns the gene HIF1A and major depressive disorder.
