SMM is defined as serum M protein (IgG or IgA) ≥ 3 g/dl or urinary M protein ≥500 mg/24 h, and/or bone marrow plasma cells (BMPCs) of 10% to 60% and the absence of myeloma defining events (hypercalcemia, anemia, lytic bone lesions, or renal insufficiency) or amyloidosis [3].
