They showed that patients with adenocarcinoma responded less to ChRT and that only squamous cell carcinoma was associated with achieving a pCR (p = 0.009).3 One of the differences between squamous cell and adenocarcinoma is that the latter is more likely to harbor a driver mutation such as EGFR, ALK, RET, or ROS1 which may explain the findings in Kayawake’s study.37 The gene discussed is ALK; the disease is adenocarcinoma.
