NOTCH1 and cancer: Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) showed that the ‘AT-EC Notch1 gene signature’ was highly enriched in a gene expression dataset (Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) GSE131835) obtained from vWAT samples from individuals with cachexia with oesophago-gastric cancer and from individuals with precachexia and stable weight compared to vWAT samples from healthy, cancer-free donors (Fig. 1h and Extended Data Fig. 1h)15, indicating a potential role for EC Notch1 signaling in human cachectic phenotypes.
