Retinal inflammatory responseis implicated in the pathogenesisof glaucoma and in glaucomatous conditions, and Müller cellsundergo reactivation (gliosis).118,150 Under pathologicalconditions, activated retinal glial cells fail to play their neuroprotectiveroles and promote widespread inflammatory factors, including tumornecrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and nitric oxide (NO) and interleukins.127 TNF-α is a major inflammatory factorand release from activated Müller cells and microglia glia. These factors aggravate cytotoxic reaction and RGC degeneration. Here, TNF is linked to glaucoma.
