Spindle and kinetochore-associated complex subunit 1 (SKA1) is an outer kinetochore microtubule-binding protein that is required for kinetochore-spindle microtubule attachment and correct chromosomal segregation during mitosis.[14] SKA1 protein deficiency may lead to serious chromosomal separation abnormalities.[15] Many studies have demonstrated a link between high SKA1 expression and poor prognosis in cancer. The gene discussed is SKA1; the disease is cancer.
