Data from several patient series have shown that the median age of anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) positive non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients is 55 years which is about 10 years to 15 years lower than for the general NSCLC population and also the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutated patients, approximately 70% of these patients are never smokers [6]. This evidence concerns the gene ALK and non-small cell lung carcinoma.
