Compared to participants without anemia, those with anemia were older, more likely to be non-White, more likely to have a lower socioeconomic status, education, and BMI, less likely to be current alcohol drinkers, current smokers, and engage in physical activity, and more likely to have active social connection, high CRP levels, and chronic conditions (p < 0.05 for all) (Table 1). The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is anemia (phenotype).
