Cytoplasmic dynein 1 (hereafter referred to as dynein) is the main minus end–directed motor protein responsible for the retrograde transport of a variety of cargos, organelles, and cellular components in eukaryotic cells (1, 2), and its mutations have been linked to neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) (3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9). This evidence concerns the gene IMMT and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
