Mulchandani et al. found that severe COVID-19 was characterized by significantly increased levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-2R, and TNF- α) [46], which was supported by our observation that several pro-inflammatory cytokines in the dead COVID-19 patients had significantly higher levels than those in the alive patients.
