Interestingly, over-expression of bumpel ameliorated the lifespan and climbing phenotype of Aß expressing flies, and led to a reduction in Aß levels (Fig 6A, 6B and 6C), showing that bumpel can rescue an AD fly model too, and similarly to the C9 models, bumpel reduces toxic proteins associated with disease. This evidence concerns the gene C9 and Alzheimer disease.
