Differential gene activity levels for marker genes allowed us to identify cancer cells (KRT5, KRT15, CXCR4, TERT, TP63), cancer-associated fibroblasts or CAFs (COL1A2, LUM, FAP, VEGFC, ANGPT1, PDGFRB, IL6, CXCL8, CXCL12) and endothelial cells (CDH5, EGFL7) (Fig. 4b and Supplementary Figs. 10b–e and  11b–e). The gene discussed is TERT; the disease is cancer.
