Although IUGR muscle expressed less of the insulin-dependent glucose transporter Glut4 in some studies (De Blasio et al., 2012; Duan et al., 2016; Yates et al., 2019; Jones et al., 2022), glucose uptake may have been rescued by an increase in the insulin-independent transporter Glut1 (Brown et al., 2015; Yates et al., 2019).
