Considering the strong associations between the simple and commonly used liver enzyme marker ALT and the atherosclerosis indicator HDL-C with NAFLD (12–15, 20, 21), we speculate that the combination of ALT and HDL-C ratios is closely associated with NAFLD, and this combination may further enhance the ability to identify NAFLD. The gene discussed is GPT; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
